Q: How can I get rid of Reflux during pregnancy?
I got woken up by Acid Reflux…and it hurts sooo bad! I take Nexium everyday for it, and was going to get my prescription refilled a couple days ago, but I’ve been in the hospital with my grandmother being sick. Of course, they are closed on Sundays, didn’t realize it, and now I can’t lay down. I even ate Mexican food for dinner….BIG mistake!!
Do any of you know anything that helps make it go away?
A: Drink a glass of milk to help “neutralize” the stomach acid. You can also take a rolaids or tums while you’re pregnant, just don’t take too many of them.
Q: Is there any Acid Reflux medication you can take while Pregnant?
I have BAD acid reflux now, not being pregnant I do take medication. I’m wondering once My hubby and I do get pregnant, will there be anything I can take?
That’s a huge worry of mine, i’m fine with knowing Ill have lots of sleepless nights! But the acid reflux during pregnancy scares me! When I don’t take my meds, i get a chocking/gaging feeling. Its horrible! Then I get close, or vomit.
If you know an answer, please let me know. I will ask my doctor too when I get pregnant but wondering now.
Thank you!
A: My doctor prescribed my Nexium while I was pregnant for exactly what you have now. You do need to be careful what you take though, because I know that you can’t take Peptobismol while pregnant. And know that there are some over the counter things for acid reflux that you shouldn’t take until you are so far along. You would need to check with your doctor to see what is right or wrong for your particular situation.
Q: pregnancy, acid reflux and peppermint! plz help!?
Im 8 weeks pregnant, but before getting pregnant, i always had that acid reflux, which was really severe and causing heartburn and other dislikable effetcs…anyway, now it seems that it is gettin worse with my pregnancy…whatever im eating im throwin up and always havin stomach aches …dunno i was thinkin about havin a hot cup of pure peppermint, so it is safe to drink peppermint during pregnancy and would it relief the acid reflux?please help me!
A: Yes you can.
also talk to your doctor. I had bad GERD pre-pregnancy and took zantac
Q: Is acid reflux a common early sign of pregnancy?
I was trying to get pregnant about a month ago and have quit since because we just decided to stop trying until we buy a house. I’ve been taking cheap pregnancy tests so they aren’t giving me the earliest response but last few nights i’ve been experiencing acid reflux which is something I never had a problem with before in my life. Is it common during an early pregnancy to have acid reflux?
and i do plan to take another test soon, i was just curious to see if this is common.
A: I don’t think it’s common but it’s certainly not uncommon. Acid reflux/heartburn tends to appear further on during pregnancy and especially during the third trimester. I sip the gaviscon from the bottle now!
Are you sure it’s not morning sickness? And if you’ve never had it before in your life.. they it could very well be a pregnancy symptom. I had some very strange symptoms during my early pregnancy!
Q: Unbearable acid reflux while pregnant?
I am having horrible acid reflux during my pregnancy. It’s awful…no matter what I eat I still get it. I take pepcid complete but it doesn’t help. I feel miserable! It’s horrible when I lay down so I try to sleep propped up…but it doesn’t help. I have it all day at work and it’s painful and annoying! Anyone else have this problem?? Any good tips for helping to soothe it?
A: yes, I had it so bad I thougt I was going to die. You can take Zanax while pregnant, it is very safe. Go get a script from your doctor. They need to know about this anyway.
Q: Low hematocrit levels, anemic, acid reflux disease, dehydrated what else can go wrong during this pregnancy?
My hematocrit level is low that’s how many red blood cell I have. My potassium is low cause I am craving lots and lots of bananas, my iron is low, and I need to consume more fluids. How can I get back to good health? I am tired of feeling tired and weak.
With my other pregnancies I was picture perfect health.
A: I would ask your doctor to recommend certain foods and amounts of water to consume each day. If you need potasium, eat the banana you’re craving. Have a baked potato loaded with other veggies for lunch. Ask your doctor about iron supplements. Be sure to take your prenatal every day. Carry a water bottle around with you all the time. These are things I do, hope it helps.
Q: Medication for Acid Reflux?
Has anyone taken Protonix for acid reflux or heartburn during pregnancy?
If so, did it make you swell more than normal?
Cause headaches?
-29 weeks pregnant and my doctor prescribed this yesterday after telling me I have been ODing on Tums. My throat constantly burns like crazy.
The burning is b/c of the acid reflux, this medicine is helping some so far.
A: I was prescribed Mylan for my severe acid reflux about 3 weeks ago by my doctor which I have found works,but does take forever to go into effect. The only side affect I have had with it is swelling in my hands (more than usual). I called and checked with my doctor about this and he says thats a normal side affect w/ some acid reflex meds. So maybe thats your problem also.
Q: What can I expect with a hiatal hernia during my pregnancy?
I am having the normal issues with pregnancy, morning sickness and so on and so forth. I have a hiatal hernia and I also have a disease called cyclic vomiting syndrome. Does this mean I will have more issues with morning sickness and acid reflux then others with pregnancy? I just wanted to see if anyone else out there has this or has any suggestions that may help me
A: Hiatal hernia symptoms do get worse with pregnancy. Your uterus and later on the baby are pushing everything up in which case aggravates the hernia. I also have a hiatal hernia and am 8 weeks pregnant. I was scheduled to have a surgery to repair it called a nissen fundoplication but that is on hold now due to the pregnancy. I have been sick for a long time so it is hard to tell with me sometimes if it is pregnancy or the classic hiatal symptoms (which include nausea, vomiting, regurgitation, upper gastric pain…all of which I have) According to the doctors, I am experiencing my classic symptoms plus pregnancy nausea. They are hoping that after the first trimester my nausea will ease up. I am taking phenergan suppositories and they make a difference. Also, I am on prilosec, rantidine, and metoclopromide, all of which are approved for pregnancy. They have also put me on bed rest and pelvic rest for the rest of my first trimester because the pain and vomiting is so bad I have been experiencing spotting and passing of blood clots, they think due to the stress being sick puts on my body. Changing your diet will help! Read up on the internet on hiatal hernia diets, keep a food journal, and try to figure out what foods aggravate it. Good luck to you and I hope you figure out what works for you.
Q: I’m pregnant and need help with my acid reflux?
I’m 11 weeks pregnant and have severe acid reflux – to the point where even water burns. I’m on Zantac and tums – they help a little, but I’m in pain and discomfort all day long. Everything I eat and drink hurts. Any suggestions on how to make this condition better during my pregnancy would be much appreciated.
A: Get u sum Mylanta or Maalox, both work on contact. Also when u go to ur Dr. u can ask him to prescribe u sum Prevacid and they do work wonders!! Also try not eat so much at once, get off those spicy, greasy, chocolate and caffeine products.. Also when u eat sumthng try not to lay right down.. I think u will be alright!!
Anyway CONGRATULATIONS ON UR PREG!!..
Q: What is the best food to eat during late pregnancy?
Pickles, carrots, grits, brocolli, sausage, and other greasy foods give me bad heart burn and acid reflux.
A: Pregnancy Ramen
[Reset]
Keys : Instant Noodles Maggi Student Budget Easy Pasta
Ingredients :
1pktramen (I like Top Ramen Sesame Flavor)
1xegg
1/2cupthinly sliced carrots
Method :
* 1/2 Cup chopped scallions (green onions)
* 1 tsp crushed sesame seed-nori mix (available in Japanese markets)
* This is the only way I could justify eating ramen noodles while pregnant. At least I could tell myself I was getting protein and veggies to counter the sodium and MSG. Mix up the egg as if you were going to scramble it and throw it in the pot when you put the ramen on to boil. Throw in the carrots at the same time. Meanwhile, put the ramen powder, nori mix, and scallions in the bottom of a bowl. Drain most of the water from the ramen and pour the noodles, egg, and carrots into a bowl. Mix and eat, salting every few forkfuls. Try not to think about what the MSG is doing to your unborn child.
* Note: This works well with Sesame, Chicken, and Oriental flavors, but tastes pretty bad with Beef, Spicy Beef, and Cajun Chicken. Not sure about Shrimp or Pork.

Q: What is one of the things during your pregnancy?
that you absolutely LOVE but makes you feel so horrible.
I for some reason love drinking the orange fused strawberry sunny d. But it’s instant acid reflux not more than 5 minutes after I drink it!!! Yet I still go get another glass. I wonder if it’s going to be a boy?
A: well there’s this soup where i work, its called chicken tortilla soup. I LOVE it. But it’s spicy. For the last trimester of my prgnancy I couldn’t eat it because it gave me heartburn sooo bad. But I would eat it anyway sometimes because it was so good. Kepp Tums around. Are you wanting a boy? I had horrible heartburn my whole pregnancy and I had a boy.
Q: 33wks pregnant and i cant sleep, its more not being able to breath and the acid reflux…suggestions?
As well as the doctors think I have herniated discs that are pinching a nerve but i’ve had trouble with that previously, that isn’t what is causing the sleeping problems, but they have prescribed vicodin and flexeril and it seems like those medicines make the reflux worse and I am worried about taking them during pregnancy…any suggestions?
A: i have the same exact problem as you.. even with the herniated disc in my lower back. vicoden is fine during pregnancy, it can make you feel better. also too you can try stuff like icy hot for your back.. and my obgyn told me that i can take stuff like pepcid otc and stuff for acid controller.. it won’t hurt the baby, but it saved my butt!!!
Q: Question about Gallstones during pregnancy?
Ok so this is going to be slightly long and I apologise for that now. I just don’t know what to do.
I have been experiencing what I though was Acid Reflux since 5 weeks into this pregnancy. I am now 24 weeks. I am having Fraternal Twins.
After having 4 of these “attacks” in the space of 2 weeks I cracked it and went to the Dr’s. (This was Monday, Couldn’t get into OB’s office until Friday) Doctor said there was a possibility of Gallstones and ordered bloods for Kidney and Liver Function. I went in on Wednesday to get the results. Both my Liver and Kidney function were borderline. Doctor told me to wait two weeks and come back for more bloods.
Saw my OB on Friday, (Had another “attack” early Friday morning, Very severe and lasted 5 hours) OB was extremely angry that the doctor hadn’t ordered an Ultrasound. She has now done this for me and I go in on Monday morning for the scan. OB is convinced it is Gall stones.
I have read what I can online about Gallstones and everything say’s Gallstones are caused from too much fat and cholesterol in your diet. I am an extremely healthy person. Fresh meat and Veg every night. So why do I have Gallstones????
Also it has gotten to the point where I am starting to get depressed. I can’t sleep properly as I can only sleep on my left side so I wake up during the night with cramps up my side from laying in the same possition for too long. It is extremely hard to get comfortable or to have a good nights sleep. (I can’t even stand my partner cuddling me during the night anymore)
I am so miserable, I can’t eat alot so I am losing weight. I am tired 24/7 and have no energy. I have a 2 year old son and feel as though he is suffering also as Mummy is too sick to play!
OB has warned that there is a good chance I will be going in for surgery in the next few weeks. I am SO scared.
I don’t know what my question is. Just need personal experiences and advice on how to make my self feel better. I am sooooo sorry this is so long. I just don’t know what to do.
Thank you in advance.
A: Hi There,
I have not had gallstones however my mother had them when she was pregnant with me.
She had issues prior to her pregnancy with me and ignored them (very silly thing to do) once she had enough of the pain she went to the DRs to find out her options. Her options were – have the opp and there is a chance of losing the baby (me) or wait until the baby is born and go from there. Luckily the stones hadnt broken down too much in this time as gallstones if they break down too small they can be passed through some of your organs and can be quite terrible & potentially fatal. But dont be too alarmed as my mum ignored hers for a long time as she didnt know what the problem was, so the sooner you get to it the better
I can remember when she was in hospital so i would of had to have been 18mnths old if not older to remember that.
Having said all this, she had the stones before she fell pregnant – dealt with it (somehow) for the 9months or so of pregnancy and a further possible 18 months before the opp.
My mother was fine and was even better after her opp & I was born all ok.
Try not to be too scared – the DRs will do everything they can to help yourself & make sure the bubs are ok too.
As for the pain while sleeping you should really get yourself a body pillow if you havent got one already. They are great and this way while laying on your left side you can throw your right leg over the pillow which not only will take some of the wight & pressure off your body it will also help your pelvis and back to be sitting in a better position.
If this doesnt work for you my only other suggestion would be to prop yourself up in bed so that way you can lay on your back but by being propped up you will take that pressure off again..
I really hope this has helped you in some way… Good luck with everything and just make sure you keep in touch with your DRs.
Take care
xo
Q: How early in one’s pregnancy does one get acid reflux?
My last period started on Oct 2, hubby and I had sex on Day 12 of the period (but he did not come. felt a pre-come liquid in my vagina). The intercourse happened 48 hours into the ovulation.
Now, I am having some weird symptoms.
1. Feeling pukey and sometimes giddy for the past 3-4 days
2. I took a home pregnancy test yesterday afternoon and it was negative. But I experienced secretion like the one that happens during ovulation. I have no infection or itchiness down there.
3. Acute acidity and gas, persists along with my nausea
Am I pregnant, or is it something else?
A: Acid reflux can occur at anytime during pregnancy, i got it at the beginning maybe once a week, and now at 32 weeks i get it nearly everyday (very annoying)
i think a pregnancy test it too early for you now i would wait until your at least due on or even better when your a few days late, dont forget pregnancy tests work better in the morning, good luck! x
Q: could acid reflux possibly be an early pregnancy symptom?
Hi everyone
My fiance and i had sex 3 times during my past ovulation days (it was around 27th-1st Sept) and i have a feeling i could have gotten pregnant. I had cramps the end of last week, like period pains. It also feels very uncomfortable laying on my stomach when i sleep which i usually always do. Iv also noticed smells alot more.
However the fast few days iv been feeling like theres something stuck in my throat and no matter how much i cough or drink i can still feel it. I had had a look and i cannot see anything there. It just comes and goes during the course of the day and is very annoying.
Could this possibly be an early pregnancy symptom? has anybody else had this before?
My period is due the end of the week so i was thinking about taking a First Response test Wednesday. Are they very reliable?
Thanks
Hi Elly, Sounds like we have alot of the same symptoms.
I will be taking a test on Wednesday i think.
I am very sorry to hear about your miscarriage. Fingers crossed for both of us. Let me know when you get your result, i really hope you get your possitive
Ill let you know when i test.
Thanks x
A: Hi there, sounds like we’re in a similar situation!
Unfortunately I miscarried 15.08.09 at 5weeks. But after my bleeding stopped on 22.08.09 we started TTC again and now I think (HOPE!) I could be pregnant again!
I’ve been having cramps since 01.09.09 and I first noticed that it was very uncomfortable to lie on my stomach on 02.09.08. I also noticed smells more on 02.09.09. And today, although I wasn’t hungry, I had some toast because I felt a little queasy and almost straight away I started to experience the same throat sensations as you!
It certainly sounds like you could be pregnant – when are you going to test?
I’m also experiencing:
* Constipation
* Loose stools at times
* Lower back ache
* Hot sweats at night
* Vivid dreams (one where my Dad bought baby items ready for when he child minds my baby!)
* Slight nausea
* Burping
* Gas
* Irritability
* Crying for no reason (cried during the Xfactor yesterday!)
* Cramps
* Feel warm, but no temperature
* Full bottom feeling (sorry, tmi!)
* Not very hungry
* An odd feeling low down in my abdomen before and after I wee
* Noticing smells more
* Stronger smelling and darker yellow wee, more noticeable first wee of the day (sorry!)
* Stuffy nose, was runny a few days ago
* Dizzy/light-headed when I get up quickly
But I don’t have sore boobs.
I dropped a sample of my first morning wee in at the doctors today, so hopefully I will know tomorrow afternoon. But because I haven’t had a period since my m/c I have no dates to go on, so I don’t know how many dpo I am which means it could be too early to test (Before my m/c my period was 13-18th July 09)
Good luck and baby dust to you – please post how you get on x x x
