Q: Experience of gall bladder removal?
I had my gall bladder removed 10 days ago – and since have been plagued with heartburn/indigestion symptoms!! Also the feeling of there being something in my gullet – does anyone have any experience of this?
A: My mum had the same and I think it’s normal. It’s also quite common to get the runs afterwards for a while (it takes a long time to settle down in many cases).
Q: Is this heartburn? Acid indigestion?
This seems to happen a lot. It seems to happen suddenly as well. A slight burning sensation in the back of my throat. There’s def. no pain around the breastbone like I’ve read about as a symptom of heartburn. No pain anywhere else. I never get an actual taste in my mouth like stomach acid either. Occasionally after I notice this slight pain my voice is hoarse. But not always. I rarely feel nausea with this but it HAS happened in the past. One other symptom I noticed and I have no clue if it’s related but I figured I’d tack it on just in case. When ever I eat a meal I notice that when I am finished I have an extremely phlegmy cough. So severe in fact I cannot take a deep breath without going into a coughing fit to clear the mucus. I had read somewhere or heard from someone that phlegmy coughing after meals can be related to heartburn?? Can anyone set me straight here? Tums normally help but again I’ve run into times where they don’t do much. I’d say I get this 3 to 5 times a month. I avoid spices and seasonings like the plague because I don’t like burping up the taste of it hours and hours later but even eating simpler foods I still get this burning once and while. Thanks for any help.
I never wake up with this pain, and I’ve never been “struck” with an episode while laying down. There seems to be no pattern at all. This even happens to me if I haven’t eaten all day long…
A: Sounds like gastric reflux – stomach acid getting into the throat. This can have several causes but the symptoms can be treated with gaviscon tablets or liquid.
See tour doctor for further investigation and treatment.

Q: Early pregnancy symptom…indigestion>>?
DH and I are TTC. LMP was June 5th…ovulated around June mid june. Having heartburn/indigestion. Is this an early preg symptom? Just wanted to ask before I call my dr tomorrow questioning. I just want to make sure all is ok.
My mid-lower back is sore as well.
A: It certainly was a symptom for me, and it continued all the way through pregnancy. 2 weeks before i found out I was preg, I started with bad heartburn, so I was only 4 weeks preg. It could well be symptom but might be too early to show up on test. Call Dr, theres no harm in asking. Good luck!!
Q: What are the main causes of indigestion, upset stomach, and heartburn?
Lately I’ve been having indigestion – i figured it was my caffiene intake. I had increased it last week and have taken a break fr. it this past weekend. I had a small cup of coffee today (for tonight’s lecture, and I’m instantly feeling it again). What’s weird is that I haven’t had this in months. Last quarter I had a cup of coffee a day (in the morning) and sometimes 2 (at the most) or substitute it w. tea.
I have a sensitive stomach but have learned to overcome it. I eat six small sized portions a day, workout, etc…thing is, i haven’t worked out since september and during fall quarter, I’ve been eating a bit more or 3 big meals a day. I just started working out again, decreasing my caffiene intake, the stress isn’t as bad this quarter (just one class)….and I’m getting alot of indigestion, upset stomach, and heartburn. i don’t know why…i’ve managed to survive this last quarter when things were worse (in terms of diet, exercise, and stress)…and NOW…that i’m back to working out, eating 6 meals a day, less stress…the MORE i’m getting these symptoms.
WHY? (possibly the weather)
How can I heal this? Heatpack, tums, etc….?
A: It could be even though you’re eat small meals, what do they consist of? This could be the problem.
Q: How can you distinguish between a heartburn or chest pain from a mild heart attack?
Are there key symptoms that help differentiate them? I’ve heard that heartburns/chest pains have similar symptoms to a mild heart attack, but before going on to assume anything, is there a way to tell the difference between them? In other words, how do you know if you’re having muscular aches or indigestion problems or acid reflux to something more serious like heart problems showing its early stages and coming in the form of a mild heart attack? I know there aren’t any sure ways to pinpoint what exactly it is before seeing the doctor, but until I can do that, is there a way to differentiate them from one another? Are there different key symptoms for each of the diagnosis I’ve mentioned? Please help me. I’m in kind of a crisis, so please be serious in your answers and don’t use this opportunity to make jokes about my situation. Thanks in advance. 10 points for best answer!
A: It’s difficult for doctors, it’s impossible for non-doctors. The problem is that heart attacks can present in many ways.
Anyone who has worked in emergency medicine has probably had the heart attack victim who’s waited too long because “it was just gas.”
As an example of odd symptoms, there was one woman I treated that came to the ED because she couldn’t stop belching. Big acute heart attack.
Q: What are the symptoms of an ulcer?
Everything gives me heartburn, gas, indigestion. I often have pain like in the middle of my gut.
A: The classic symptoms of an ulcer are a burning pain in the epigastrium (the area just below where the ribs meet) occurring on an empty stomach or 3-5 hours after a meal. Certain foods are more likely to cause symptoms: spicy foods, caffeine. Certain medications can increase the risk of developing an ulcer: non-steroidal anti-inflammatories like ibuprofen or aspirin. There are many medications which help with the symptoms of ulcers: Antacids (like Maalox or Mylanta), H2 antagonists (like Pepcid, Zantac, or Tagamet) and proton pump inhibitors (like Prilosec or Prevacid) all help at least with the symptoms and can also help to heal an ulcer. It would be ok for you to try one of the above over-the-counter, but if symptoms continue you should see a doctor.
Q: When having stomach indigestion, is this normal?
It feels like someone is punching me in the stomach repeatedly. I’ve had issues with acid production before. I had an endoscopy to see if I had an ulcer, but was fine. I took Nexium for about 5 months. I’ve been REALLY stressed out lately. Last night I woke up and puked after feeling a dull pain in my stomach. Now tonight I have that dull pain again with heartburn. Is that a normal symptom of indigestion? I did drink a bit last night.
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. I’m not asking for a diagnosis. I know how to go to the doctor.
A: If you drank, you made your chronic gastritis worse.
So i guess for you, that’s normal indigestion.
Q: bad pregnancy symptoms then gone?
hi everyone-
I guess i am like 6 weeks and 3 days pregnant. i had all the symptoms, i mean nasuea, vommitting, heartburn, indigestion, sore boobs, tired!!!!, and emotional.
I woke up this morning with cramps (like period cramps), and my symptoms aren’t as bad. the heartburn stopped about 2 days ago. and my boobs are really sore anymore. and no nasuea for like 4 days? is this just lucky to not have the symptoms, or is it a sign i’m gona have a miscarriage?
thanks
i’m really grochy too!!! and emotional crying alot! and then this mornng i woke up in a good mood?! and was perky and ready to get out of bed, when for the past week or two i couldn’t drag myself out of bed at all!
A: It’s normal for your symptoms to go away…and they may even come back. I don’t think it’s signs of a miscarrage. If the cramps get severe or you start bleeding then get checked but symptoms going away are normal.
Q: Illness mystery? Intense heartburn after eating Chinese food….?
I just had the freakiest and scariest thing ever happen to me.
I had taken several bites of some Sweet N Sour Chicken from a local Chinese restaurant, which I’ve eaten the very same dish at many times. All of a sudden I got intense heartburn pain and began hiccuping uncontrollably. This happened at work so I ran into my directors office and asked (could barely talk) to use some antacids, which I took. I followed it up with water.
Immediately, I began having difficulty breathing and swallowing. This was relieved when I began throwing up white foamy stuff.
After doing this several times the pain began to subside as well as the other symptoms. I do not have anymore heartburn/indigestion, though I sometimes burp which does not hurt. I have taken a Benadryl just in case it was an allergic reaction. I did not eat anymore of the food either.
I’m really scared because I’m not sure what just happened and is it going to happen again? Please help!!
A: MSG reaction?
Because MSG is a common ingredient for many Chinese foods, reactions are sometimes referred to as Chinese Restaurant Syndrome. Of course, not all Chinese food contains MSG and this substance can be found in other types of food as well.
MSG can cause a reaction in nerve cells. The use of this stimulant affects the mouth and the brain. Hence, you will find that when you consume MSG, your sense of taste and smell are stimulated. The down side to this stimulation is that it can also cause MSG allergy symptoms due to over stimulation of the nerve cells.
More severe MSG allergy symptoms include numbness or pressure in the face, chest pain or palpitations, nausea, vomiting, head pain, flushing and sweating, and/or wheezing. Symptoms can be worse if the foods high in MSG are consumed on an empty stomach and in high doses.
MSG allergy symptoms tend to show up within one half hour to one hour after eating food containing MSG, and symptoms usually dissipate within two or three hours. If reactions are severe, an emergency medical treatment is required.
Q: Severe stomach pain…Indigestion?
For a few days now i’ve been having pretty severe stomach pains.. It feels like hunger pain, but eating sometimes makes it worse. Along with it i have heartburn, and the pain makes me nauseas. It’s been keeping me awake at night and hurts almost all day. I’d like to get some opinions before I go to the doctor, so I can have an idea on how to treat it. For now, I’ll check for some Pepto Bismol.. the jingle keeps running through my head and i have all the symptoms but the last one.. “Nausea heartburn indigestion upset stomach…..”
By the way, I’m 16, and I take Paroxetine (paxel) for stress and anxiety. Thank you!
A: perhaps the paroxetine tabs are upsetting your digestive system be careful what you take to counteract the heartburn as some over counter remedies can stop / interfere with your medication take advice from your doctor
Q: What could cause these symptoms?
I often have exccessive belching, gas, bloating, indigestion, heartburn and at night I spit up phlegm. It is getting annoying. I have a burning that comes and goes in my stomach and it spreads. The dr put me on Zantac and Prilosec are they safe to take together?
A: It sounds to me like you have gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and yes these meds are safe to take together. If they don’t help it could be possible that you have a hiatal hernia, but that is something that should be discussed with your doc.
Q: What are some posible symptoms of coming off birth control pills?
I was on minovral 21’s for 13 years. I am 26 years old and never had any medical problems during that time. I went off in August and now, in March have not had my period yet, not even any spotting. I have been pretty miserable besides that with a bunch of weird symptoms that I had never had before including: heartburn, indigestion, bloating, pressure in my chest, night sweats, hot flashes, insomnia, and anxiety, lack of ANY sex drive, acne….
Wondering if any or all of these could be linked to me coming off those pills?
ps, have been doing regular pregnacy tests so I’m defenitly not preggers!!
A: No your pregnant b!tch
Q: Heartburn feelings almost always?
I have been to several doctors and had A LOT of tests done to test everything except for my stomach. I had an issue in January with severe stress that made me very very sick. I then developed non-stop heartburn symptoms and went to the hospital twice because i thought I was having a heart attack, they said indigestion both times. I had a barrium swallow xray of my esophagus and everything looked good, also had a H-Pylori test and it was negative. I am going for yet another barrium (Upper GI Xray) tomorrow this time on my stomach and I wanted to know if anyone knew what could be going on.
I was originally told to have an upper endoscopy but I was VERY nervous about the procedure and didnt go through with it (barrium instead). Can barrium swallows show gastritis or ulcers? I have been told that both of those are definite possibilities.
My symptoms are heartburn, heavy feeling below chest, stomach burning, VERY increased sensitivity of caffeine (never had that before), heart palpitations after eating, and pain in the middle of my back. I feel very bloated a lot, especially after a meal.
Anyone experience this?
By the way I am only 26 years old with no prior health problems whatsoever.
Had barrium swallow/ upper GI xray today and they saw nothing wrong yet I have symptoms about 8 hours a day. Im getting very frusterated.
A: points
Q: Possible Pregnancy symptoms?
I’m only a day late on my period. But I have had a feeling that I could be pregnant. I’ve been extremely exhausted lately, headaches, dizziness, bloating, swollen breasts, sore nipples, mild cramping ( pinching/pulling feeling) in my pelvic area, sometimes I feel very hungry, and other times I dont want to eat all day. I’ve been very irritable and moody lately and have noticed that sometimes I will smell certain things and it just makes me so sick to my stomach. I know some of these symptoms can also be because of pms, but what really has me concerned is the heartburn and indigestion I have had lately. I NEVER get either of those, and have had backaches and leg cramping. I was told that heartburn, indigestion, and the back and leg cramping can all be signs of pregnancy. Do you think I should wait a few more days to take a test? What were some of your earliest symptoms?
A: i would definatly take a test.
my earliest symptoms were at 3days late… i had cramps and felt sick… i just FELT different.
i tested when i was 5days late.
it is of course up to you when you test, but i would leave it a few days, or go out and get yourself a test that is best for EARLY testing.
im now 10weeks… so is definatly worth taking the test.
all the best for you.
Q: constant heartburn after suffering anxiety?
i was diagnosed with anxiety and depression after having my baby 9 months ago i suffered with the short of breath, sweating, chest pain, aches and pains. the anxiety had got a lot better but i now have constant heartburn and indigestion which gets worse when i feel stressed. are these connected if so why wont it go away with the other symptoms.?
A: Why doesn’t someone consider that post depression from having the baby is a problem here. Since you have a 9 month old and another one on the way it’s no wonder you’re stressed out. I really don’t know anyone that wouldn’t be. These are normal feelings to be having right now too. Please get some therapy to know this for yourself and to realize that you can also pass these feelings onto both baby and fetus too. You need to have some pampering for yourself for awhile too here. Everyone puts all the attention on the new baby and forgets that new mom’s need a break now and then too. Where is the daddy in this picture and why can’t he take over once n a while? If for some reason this isn’t possible then someone must be able to do this for you. Even 1 day a week or every other week would be a day where mommy can have to herself to go out, have your hair and nails done, go and find a new blouse or just go out alone. Sometimes medication is only a temporary patch or band aide to help these symptoms. You must also get some good out of the rest of your life too. Up until 9 months ago you knew an entirely different world. Then all of a sudden this baby comes and you don’t even have 2 minutes to yourself any more. Is it any wonder you have these symptoms? Try going to a therapist that specializes in new mother’s. These peopel can give you allot of clues to try too. Preferably go to a female therapist here for all the reasons that a male just couldn’t understand. Good luck and God Bless
