Q: What can I do for ulcer/acid reflux and all this pain and misery?? Please help.?
I tend to hold all of my stress in my stomach it seems. When things get stressful for me, I start to have a lot of digestive woes. I am currently going through an extremely stressful time in my life and the digestive problems that accompany are miserable! I am so tired of constant heartburn, severe gas pains, cramping and alternating constipation and diarrhea. I have been through all of the tests – I do not have celiac disease or any of the other things that are typically tested for. Although I do not H. Pylori, I have been diagnosed as having recurring peptic ulcer symptoms. My stomach is so sensitive there are hardly any foods that I can eat without upsetting it. I eat mostly granola, saltines, pretzels, and sandwiches. I know that my diet isn’t healthy and not even close to balanced! But I do what I can from day to day (including taking 3 imodium every morning) to be able to not have diarrhea and make it to work. I’m in the process of going through a huge stressful move right now and I know that it makes sense that my symptoms would be worse with all the extra stress, I’m just wondering what I can do for relief?! It seems to me that if I take a lot of Zantac, I might feel better immediately but in the long run the problems get worse and it gives me diarrhea (i think?). I tried prilosec otc and that was a nightmare… that made me so constipated I couldn’t go for WEEKS at a time and then when I would it would be the most painful stomach cramping ever. I get stomach acid in the back of the throat, I get burning in my stomach, I get sharp pains in the pit of my stomach, I get the gnawing feeling in the pit of my stomach and I get gas pains that sometimes make me feel as if my whole torso has seized up. My stomach also gets so big and bloated that I look pregnant and it feels as if my belly would pop if you poked it. The upset stomachs are worst in the morning. I know that reducing the stress is an obvious answer but I can only get through the move and everything so quickly… what else can I do to help myself feel better??? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A: You didn’t say if you’ve gone to a doctor. You really should do that first since this seems to be an on going problem. A gastric specialist is who I would see. Prevacid has been a blessing to me for several years and is now sold over the counter. It’s for acid reflux. (it is expensive but you can find coupons) You don’t want to let that go too long because they know now that this will damage your esophagus and could cause cancer. You may also have irritable bowel syndrome. There are medications for this too. Maybe breathing exercises and yoga would help you relax more. I hope you find an answer to all of this and feel better soon.

Q: stomache ulcer,acid reflux,and gallstones im a mess.?
my question is if anyone on here had all three like i do had to get all this testing done egd, barrium and ultra sound and now im getting surgery to get my gallbladder out just found out today i have a stomache ulcer from my egd. and wanted to know if yous felt better after the surgery and the medications doctors put yous on. (im soo nervouse with all this) thanks.

A: I had acid reflux so bad it was eating my esophagus to the point that the doctors thought it had turned into cancer. I had several biopsy’s done and I did not have cancer but I was very sick all the time. I had to have a surgery done called a fundoplication. That is where they take the sides of your stomach and sew them around the bottom of your esophagus. I also had a ulcer and they just sewed my stomach right around it. This procedure took around 5 hours. Very painful when I recovered. Doctor botched up my surgery. I had this done in 1999 and I am still having trouble all the time. What I’m trying to say is if you are going to have surgery to correct your acid reflux make sure you chose a doctor that is a specialist in that field. Believe me I work in the medical field and I know how a doctor can tell you one thing and do another. I’m not trying to scare you I don’t have heart burn any more but I pay the price everyday for believing what one doctor said without getting a second opinion or even a third. Good luck to you!

Q: What am I experiencing? Is it an ulcer or acid reflux? ?
I have never really had a problem with reflux, but a few years ago I got an ulcer. After it was treated, things were fine, but in the last 6 months, there have been 4 separate episodes where I get this growing burning pain at the base of my sternum in the center and it doesn’t move, but it lasts for maybe 3-5 hours. I have taken rolaids and an acid controller but felt no difference in the pain. The pain resembles the same pain from my ulcer but like I said, it only last a few hours where as my ulcer pain a few years ago lasted till I got treatment which was about 36-40 hours.
It is painful and 3 of the episodes have been at bedtime, the latest as I was getting ready for bed.
Any thoughts on this would be helpful.

A: Like the lady above said, I avoid eating for several hours before bed. I also take Tums, it is the only thing that works fast and it is completely natural. Rolaids have magnesium and aluminum in them which can make things worse in the long run. I loved Tums “Lasting Effects” but they are discontinued now. Gaviscon has also been a favorite. (I can’t take prilosec as my AR is caused by the medication I take and it may interact)

Q: Stomach burn…acid reflux or stomach ulcer..???? Help!?
well i have acid reflux.. im only 16 and it runs in my family.. well around a year ago i went to the doctor and i had a stricture or something like that, where my food was getting stuck because of the reflux.. well iv been on medicine for a while and my food hasnt gotten stuck.. maybe once since ive been there.. and sometimes when i drink something acidic.. like grape juice.. or when i drink alcohol my stomach burns a little bit. could this just be from my acid reflux or could it be a stomach ulcer.. and also my stools are sometimes darker.. and sometimes normal. HELP!

A: Hi, you may have H. pylori which is a bacterial infection of the stomach and mimics acid reflux. I only say this cause you said your stools are darker. Acidic foods and drinks make your stomach produce more acid.

Here’s a list of other symptoms of H. pylori:
An ache or burning pain in your abdomen
A change in appetite with weight loss
Nausea
Vomiting
Frequent burping
Bloating
Bloody vomit or vomit that looks like coffee grounds
Bloody or black tarry stools

I had H. pylori but I only had the burning in my chest (from the acid coming up my esophagus & into my lungs), frequent burping, and weight loss. I was on antibiotics and some pills to control the acid reflux.

You should see a doctor to make sure and he or she may ask to have a blood test done. Or there might be another test they would do. It may even be something else.

Good luck.

Q: i have a bad stomach ulcer/acid reflux!?
it been a year now and am battling with this. VERY PAINFUL!

but the weird thing is. when i wake up in the morning i feel horrible and in SEVERE pain! but that changes at night!!!!!!

idk y! at night i feel very good and healthy. like nothing is wrong with me. but during the day specially the morning. am is bad pain and not feeling good.

why is this? how can i have the night feeling with me all the time?
no am not overweight. am actually very skinny!

A: if I may ask, are you overweight or did you gain weight recently??stress is a major factor too.
I had that before my doctor prescribed me to take omeprone at least 30 mins before every meal.

but i think the best solution here is to really lose weight and get active lifestyle.
My GERD has not troubled me for a long time now ever since I lost weight.

Q: IBS, an ulcer, acid reflux, or pregnant?! Please help.?
Eating ANYTHING gives me a stomach ache and makes me burp constantly afterward. I also get extremely bloated and it feels like I have mild cramps. This has been going on for about a week. I am NOT about to have my period because it just passed right before this all happened. However, I am worried that I am pregnant as well (but max only 3-4 weeks). What do these symptoms seem like? Biggest problem is the stomach pain after I eat anything..

A: depending on how severe your stomach pain after comsuming food is it could be a number of things. acid reflux and an ulcer are the most logical things you have listed there but the best thing to do right now would be to see a doctor about your problems. You most likely are not pregnant. 3-4 weeks in to pregnancy doesn’t cause stomach pain after eating or cramping. See a doctor

Q: Do you think I have a stomach ulcer, acid reflux, or what?
My stomach(upper abdomen) Has been hurting. Yesterday evening my stomach was hurting, and I went to sleep, I ended up waking up with pain at 3 AM, it was a deep sharp pain I couldn’t lay down because it made it even worse. I tried taking pain reliever, tums, milk, nothing was helping. I have experienced waking up to this pain about four time in the last 6 months or so. It is the worst pain I have ever experienced, and I will usually stay up for at least an hour or two every time it occurs. My stomach tends to hurt regularly, even my friends notice me saying my stomach hurts often.(but usually not in the upper abdomen) I also get full really easily. Today my upper abdomen is still hurting, it usually goes away before I wake up the next day, but today it still hurts, I even took two anti acid pills. I don’t know what’s wrong, I just want this pain to stop, can anyone relate? Or have an idea of what could be going on? Help please

A: It actually sounds like you have a problem with your gall bladder. You should call up your doctor and make an appointment if you can – it should definitely be addressed, whatever it is.

Q: is this a stomach ulcer or acid reflux?
yesterday i ate:
a bowl of cereal
a 100 grand bar
2 chocolate chip cookies
1 sugar cookie
1 brownie
about 1/2 cup indulgent trail mix
a nature’s valley yogurt granola bar
some nachos with cheese
1 cup of coffee
huge chicken breast with spicy ranch sauce, corn, and broccoli.
and about 2 hours after dinner i stood up and my stomach was absolutely BURNING. like i couldnt even stand up straight. and then i tried to take a shower but i had to lay down because when i stood up i felt like i was gonna puke. laying down felt a little better but my stomach was still on fire. and then the pain came around into my back and up into my chest. i had truly AWFUL gas (it kind of smelled like hard boiled eggs). about 2 hours later i was completely fine. this has happened about 15 times now. the first time i had been on doxycylcin for about 2 weeks and had lost some weight. now ive lost about 20 pounds and been on the meds for about 5 months. what is this?
im 14 years old and i am very physically active. i drink 8 glasses of water a day. eating more food doesnt help it at all- i tried.
and that is not what i normally eat every day. i usually eat a lot less.

A: I stand in awe of your diet choices. You rock.
Anyway, doxycycline is an antibiotic and it can irritate the stomach and esophagus, so I suspect that it is the primary culprit.
Your digestive tract is a veritable soup of microorganisms that perform much of the digestive processes. They help break things down into constituent pieces that your body can then absorb. Antibiotics aren’t particularly smart about which microorganisms they target, and they can wreak havoc on the friendly ones in your gut. When this happens, some foods which were once easy to digest can become your worst digestive nightmare, causing the kinds of problems you described.
Although antacids can help, I would focus on identifying which foods your body is having trouble with. Make a note of what you ate and when, and try to correlate that to your problems. If I had to pick a culprit, I’d focus on the dairy products, milk and yogurt, for starters. When you do identify the culprit, lay off those things for a while.
Don’t worry, usually these things will correct themselves as colonies of those microorganisms are reestablished in your gut. But it will take a little time.

Q: How can I soothe my acid reflux?
I have terrible acid reflux and an ulcer. I am always in discomfort. And night time is the absolute worst. I take medication but it doesn’t always work. I always crave cold thick frostys from Wendy’s to make the burning go away and lots of carbonated drinks. Obviously I can’t be doing that forever and it’s not healthy. What is a natural remedy to help my acid reflux?

A: You should try going on a liquid diet for a couple days, and hopefully it should help with the frequency of the reflux.

Something that’s good to soothe is milk, because it helps neutralise the acids in the stomach. Not only is it healthy, you should replace your daily drinks which might include coke, fizzy drinks or coffee (if you do have any of these) with the milk.
The only other drink i can think of is soda water (carbonated water) because it helps release the gases from your stomach.

:)

Q: Plsz Help?Would this be Symptoms of An ulcer.Acid reflux.Gerd?Somebody help.?
ok so dont know whats wrong my stomach’s been burning a whole lot the upper left under my chest.im only 13 and i think it could be from all thee hot chips but i stopped eating them recently now it maybe be mcdonals or etc. ot also burns with pop and even welchs white grape juice.also t tends to make me very sleepy often.

and no i am not sexually active.
or i do not drink.

also the juice may cause me to have shorting of breat my doctor says i may have a really bad case of gastritus but its doing nothing but getting worse.and im really worried.
also to let you no i am not overweight
is taking Prilosec OTC
And For Some REason The Pain Makes Me VerY VerY

Sleeply.it also burns after i brush my teeth
i’Ve been on prilosec for 2weeks now still no relief
my doc says i have gastritus,
but its doing nothing but getting worse…

i stopped takin prilosec after the first week becusz my tummy kept Hurting no when it hurst i get reallly sleeply.

A: Well first of all no matter what don’t stop going to the doctor to get it fixed even if this works. But I have found that 2-5 grams of fresh ginger root eaten daily in the morning all but stopped the terrible heartburn I would have. It won’t necessarily stop the gastritis but it should stop the pain. Works much better than Prilosec in most cases.

btw: 2-5 grams of ginger is a very small amount less than a 1/4 of an inch.

Q: I’m suffering from stomach ache ,indigestion,ulcer,heart burn,Acid reflux?
I have been drinking for the past ten years.I used to take slightly more drinks. For the past one omnth,i was taking little more and frequently.Last week,i went out-of-station and took spicy food and drinks.then i came back i started feeling burning stomach, indigestion, diarrohea and acid reflux, heart burn.I appraoched a doctor and he gave me medications for ten days with antibiotic ,anti-reflux etc.I got confused whther to take such dose for ten days.
Can anyone suggest me a best food practice to get rid of the above mentioned problems and medications as well with thier own experience.Currently, morning and night i take only idilis and curd rice during lunch.I took drink (vodka) by mixing it with orange juice .do you think these will be sufficint to get rid of the problem.

A: The ailments you have mentioned is derived from long irregular food habits, indisciplined lifestyle and stress.Medicine can help you temporarily but it is not a permanent remedy.
You should change your food habit and stop taking excessive drink.
Strictly avoid oily, spicy, junk, baked or burnt food. Take easily digestive food in little quantity. Take juicy sweet n sour fruit as breakfast. After meal must have a glass of yoghurt daily. Never keep your stomach empty but dont take too much food at a time.
Keep your mind free from negetive thoughts.Practice some yoga regularly under the guidance of some expert.Wish your speedy recovery.

Q: Could this be an ulcer? Or just acid-reflux?
I have had problems with this heart burn for over a week now. I’ve had a few people suggest it may be an ulcer. It is getting to the point that I hesitate to eat or drink anything because it hurts so bad. But yet if I don’t eat it still hurts. Tums only last a little while, and Prilosec didn’t seem to work when I tried that. I’ve been trying some antacids from the medicine cabinet at work and they don’t help either. I’ve never actually been diagnosed with acid reflux but I’m beginning to think it may be something more. Any thoughts?

A: I want to lean more towards an ulcer but could definitely just be acid reflux. Either way, I’d make an appointment with your family doctor or even better… with a gastroenterologist. They are the best ones to diagnose what is causing your symptoms. If it is an ulcer, I wouldn’t delay on getting treatment. The ulcer should be taken very seriously as they can perforate and cause major bleeding. Best of luck!

Hope you feel better soon.
God Bless.

Q: Can acid Reflux lead to ulcer?

A: it can lead to it and it can also give you a very irritating heartburn

Q: acid reflux or stomach ulcer etc?
for the past week I’ve had a burning sensation in my stomach and severe nausea. I can hardly eat and get full straight away, even drinking juice is now causing me to throw up straight away. I feel extremely weak and dizzy, and my stomach just hurts. I can’t get into a doctor anytime soon and was wondering what it could be? is it just acid reflux? does reflux get this bad? I’m tired all the time, even after sleeping 14 hours.
again, I said I cannot get into a doctor. I literally can’t. unless you would like me to WALK through severe flood waters like this. I hate it when idiots ask questions when they clearly need to go to the doctors, but I obviously can’t and am asking incase anyone has been through the same thing. if you haven’t, don’t be a smart arse.

A: Im sorry to disagree with some of the other posters but I had exactly the same as you and found out it is severe acid reflux I have been on a Special alkaline diet and medication for 6 months and its only just starting to get better.
The trick is small meals ,no tomatoes or tomato products ,juice or sodas, fried foods ,you can get many lists on here . If you have some bi-carb in the cupboard ,put a teaspoon full in a little warm water .
Hope this helps until you can see your Doctor good luck .
edit
You can read as many acid reflux websites and I can tell they all give different advice ….take it from someone who has suffered for 6 month ,the pain in the stomach can be agony a friend of mine has on a few occasions had to have the Doctor to his house for an injection .So dont let people tell the symptoms that you have cannot be acid because they can .

Q: Sore Throat / Throat Ulcer: Hurts more when I wake up, could it be acid reflux?
I’ve had a sore throat for over a week now, and the pain was just getting worse. I went to an ENT and it turns out I have a big throat ulcer. For some reason, it hurts a lot more when I first wake up every morning. Could this be because of acid reflux or something? Is acid getting into my throat while I sleep? And maybe that’s what’s causing the ulcer to stick around for so long? If so, what can I do to help this? I just want this throat ulcer to go away so I can go on with my life. Would it help if I just took a Zantac before I went to bed each night? Any other suggestions on what this could be or ways to treat acid reflux if that’s what it is?

A: The ENT should have been able to tell you or at least suggest some additional tests. If you do have acid reflux, Nexium is a good prescription to help with that. There are many other things you can do to reduce the stomach acids. Don’t eat 2-3 hours before going to bed. Prop the head of your bed up 4-6 inches. Don’t just add pillows.

Also, if you snore a lot, that could be contributing to the problem.

Just like any other illness, patience is required.
